EY Challenge

What Is It?

EY Challenge is a new, dynamic, winner-take-all business competition unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. The competition brings together the best and brightest students from across Canada to compete in an interactive and exciting three day challenge. Winning teams from each region will be selected during local Pitch Days to travel to Toronto for the EY Challenge National Finals.

Quote

Participating in EY Challenge was one of the highlights of my year. From the campus competition to the national finals, EY Challenge provided me with the opportunity to meet a lot of people from EY as well as students from other universities, all while having lots of fun!

Mohammed Surti, 2017 National EY Challenge Winner, University of Toronto

History

The event that was once just a thought in the back of our minds is now developed into a wide-spread national competition. The EY Challenge was first launched by the recruiting team back in 2015 and now has gained the attention of thousands of students across the country. From first meeting EY employees on campus, to an all-expenses paid trip to Toronto, and then being inches away from your favourite artist. Don’t you want to see where the EY Challenge could take you?

How You Can Get Involved

Students can get involved in one of three ways:

  1. Form a team of four and compete at your local Pitch Days
  2. Be a spectator (cheer on teams, join in networking sessions, and be eligible for the grand prize)
  3. Be a volunteer (If you work for EY already volunteer to help the campus team run the events!)

To participate in the prize (if the winning team is from your school), you need to fall under one of the above three categories.

Rules

Read below on how to sign up and how you can participate!

Pitch Days

Register as a team of four, and work within your team to prepare a business pitch for a mystery product. You will present your pitch to a panel of EY judges and your peers on campus and a winner will be chosen to represent your university. The Pitch Days act as a round robin to choose one team to represent your campus. Ten campuses across Canada will be represented at the EY Challenge Final in Toronto in late February.

Quote

Students are participating in case competitions all throughout university. We wanted to create something completely different where they could make their own rules and decisions but still apply all of their business knowledge from classes. From this simple idea, the EY Challenge was born.

Katie Wilson, Assurance Campus Recruiting Leader

National Finals

Each challenge is built around EY’s four Leadership dimensions:

  1. Business leadership
  2. Personal leadership
  3. Team leadership
  4. Client leadership

Teams will compete in four different challenges that represent each of these dimensions to demonstrate their overall excellence and capabilities. The winning team will be the one with the most points and will be awarded the ultimate prize. There are no cases in this competition.

Quote

Participating in the EY Challenge was a unique way to team up with my friends and step outside my comfort zone in order to collectively problem solve in a fun and exciting way! The Challenge is an opportunity to utilize teamwork, creative thinking, and the willingness to have fun that you may not necessarily experience in ordinary university courses. I am forever grateful for the friends I made between the campus competition and national finals with students from across the country! EY Challenge was most definitely a highlight of my university career and something I will never forget!
