Current EY Canada CEO and Chairman Trent Henry transitions to EY Global Vice Chair – Talent

EY is pleased to announce Jad Shimaly as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Canadian firm effective 1 July 2018. Shimaly replaces outgoing Chairman and CEO Trent Henry as he transitions to EY Global Vice Chair – Talent.

“Over the course of my EY career, I’ve seen that one of the biggest risks any company can take is standing still in the face of changing markets,” says Shimaly. “I’m excited to chart the course of EY Canada and help our clients seize emerging opportunities.”

Shimaly currently serves on the Canadian Executive Committee as Managing Partner for Advisory Services. He's led critical national initiatives and programs, including building EY Canada Advisory capabilities, covering risk and regulatory, consulting, and IT advisory, across a variety of sectors. Under his leadership, EY Canada Advisory Services became the employer of choice for some of Canada’s best consulting talent, and is best-positioned to help companies solve some of today’s most complex client issues.

He began his EY career in Cleveland in 2000, relocated to Toronto in 2001 and made Partner in 2007. He has lived and worked in three countries and is trilingual.

“The world is a very different place since I became EY Canada Chairman and CEO eight years ago,” says Henry. “Disruption continues to break down industry and workplace boundaries we once thought were immovable. This profound change requires the kind of vision and leadership natural to Jad. I’m excited to see him continue building a better working world.”

As EY Global Vice Chair – Talent, Henry will focus on the convergence of talent and markets agendas for both the 250,000 EY people and clients worldwide who face similar challenges and opportunities navigating today’s business landscape.

“The future of work is one of the greatest areas of change in our time,” says Henry. “How we engage and develop people in a digitally-enabled world is central to success. It’s a privilege to continue mapping that journey with EY.”

Henry began his career with EY Canada in 1989 and has worked in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and New York City. He was admitted to the firm's partnership in 1998 and has served as managing partner of the Canadian Tax practice and a member of the Canadian Executive Committee before becoming Chairman and CEO in 2010.

Under his leadership and focus on talent, EY Canada was the only one of the Big Four listed on Canada’s Best Workplaces list in 2017 and it was voted Universum’s most attractive professional services employer in Canada.

EY Canada congratulates both Shimaly and Henry on their new positions.
