Anders Byriel, CEO, and Mette Bendix, Product Director, Kvadrat A/S
Kvadrat was founded in Denmark in 1968, and the textile manufacturer soon established deep roots in Scandinavia’s design tradition. In 2000, the family business passed into the hands of a second generation: Anders Byriel, CEO, and Mette Bendix, Product Director. They set about transforming the company, quadrupling sales and turning Kvadrat from a Danish brand into a cosmopolitan, global design powerhouse. Their textiles now furnish iconic architectural spaces from the Museum of Modern Art in New York to the Guangzhou Opera House in China.
Through successful collaborations with celebrated designers and the careful acquisitions of complementary brands, Kvadrat has become an umbrella group for a variety of flourishing brands. This has also enabled the duo to bring their textiles to an international market. The result has been a doubling of the business in the past five years alone. Anders and Mette are proud of the creativity of their more than 900 employees, and they have actively pursued diversity, with women making up 49% of their managers.
