Advisor, commentator, speaker, believer, aspiring bassist and an avid Aberdeen Football Club fan.

Derek leads EY Global oil and gas tax services and is the EY UK&I Tax Sustainability Leader.

He is a regular media commentator, conference speaker and industry tax participator on matters relating to the energy transition.

He leads tax services to help businesses manage and support the evolving sustainability policy environment. In this capacity, he focuses on helping key oil and gas businesses to manage the increasingly uncertain energy and resource landscape, and helping non-energy clients in developing decarbonization plans and new operating models.

Derek has extensive experience advising on UK upstream tax issues for both UK and foreign investors, including multinational companies, private equity funds and National Oil Companies.

He holds an MA in Politics and Philosophy from Aberdeen University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and is a Chartered Tax Advisor.
