EY Malta opened its office doors to the 2021 winners of the Social Innovation Challenge, a competition open to all secondary school students from state, independent and church schools in Malta. The project, which took place in November, encouraged students to collaborate and propose innovative solutions to today’s social challenges.

This year’s winning team emerged from St Dorothy’s School in Zebbug and were subsequently hosted by EY Malta’s Tax Partner Chris Naudi, who provided the students with a tour of the premises and an overview about how EY fulfils its purpose of building a better working world for its clients, people and society.

The students were toured around the EY premises, along with their teachers Ms Roberta Micallef, Ms Gwen Fava, and Headmistress Ms Caroline Anastasi. The winners were then presented with their prizes, hand-crafted lamps created from recycled wood by architect Ruben Formosa.

EY Malta is now partnering with JAYE Malta Foundation to support the StartUp Programme for tertiary sector amongst others and this event marked the first collaboration for this cycle. For over 30 years, JAYE Malta has provided high-quality educational programmes to young people aged eight to 30 living in Malta and Gozo.

EY is a global financial services and consulting firm with over 300 people in Malta and more than 300,000 people globally. EY believe a better working world is one where economic growth is sustainable and inclusive while investing in their people and innovation.

EY Malta Country Managing Partner, Ronald Attard, said: “Disruptive innovation is changing the way the world works. And it’s creating opportunity, but only for those who can keep up with the pace or reinvent themselves to thrive. Our students are going to be at the forefront of this change and this competition is a positive testament of what’s to come for Malta. We need to actively champion their ideas, promote their creativity, and provide them with a loud platform to share their vision. We are looking forward to many more projects with JAYE Malta. A big congratulations to this year’s winners and all those that took part and I’m sure this is just the beginning of some amazing journeys.”

This event was held in collaboration with EY Malta, HSBC Malta, and The Malta Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
