Excelerate | Basic Excel functions

Workshop Outline (1 of 2)

The core concepts of Microsoft Excel can be overwhelming and it is becoming increasingly important to have a foundational knowledge in it, as more workplaces are looking for it, and as our lives and finances are becoming so fluid and difficult to keep track of. This first of two workshops is designed for those who want to start using Excel to input, change, analyse, and present information to improve overall efficiency and productivity. This interactive training will enable you to build and manage your own data through targeted exercises, step-by-step course material, and relevant everyday applications of Excel. The second workshop which will continue building on this workshop will give more detail on excel functions, and will be held on the 24th of November.

Learning objectives

The overall learning objectives for this workshop will include:

  • Learning the most common Microsoft Excel functions used in data analysis
  • Maintaining large sets of Excel data in lists or tables
  • Building a solid understanding on the basics of Microsoft Excel
  • Establishing foundational knowledge of formula syntax and its functionality
  • Knowing how to format data in an excel sheet using borders, font, cell colours and conditional formatting
  • Using Images, Shapes and Charts to visualise data
  • Managing Lists and Tables
  • Use of Pivot Tables
  • Comfort with the use of conditional and lookup functions

Who Should Attend?

The workshop will be available to anyone with an interest in establishing a foundational knowledge of Excel. It will cater for individuals who do not use Excel regularly and are not familiar with the full functionality of the application.
