Over the last decade, we have had many opportunities and touch points to promote tax awareness, understanding and knowledge; engage with our youth; and expose them to rewarding career opportunities in tax. More importantly, the EY YTPY program helps us achieve our shared objectives of cultivating and building future-focused tax competencies among our young talent. We need to continue the momentum of building and enhancing the talent and capabilities of our national workforce to support the nation’s recovery and growth, and remain competitive and resilient.
“HASiL is committed to continuosly support our undergraduates through this program and help them expand their skills to the next level. The exposure and key takeaways from the EY YTPY program are very much in line with the globalized nature and pace of business today. We are pleased to see the positive outcomes of this experience for our Malaysian undergraduates, in terms of broadening their mindsets, honing their skills and building their confidence to compete and collaborate with their global peers in the international arena.”
Farah Rosley, Malaysia Tax Managing Partner, Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn. Bhd. said, “At EY, we are passionate about opening doors for our younger generation to help them explore Tax as a career choice and discover their potential in this profession. The EY Young Tax Professional of the Year competition, or better known as EY YTPY, sets itself apart from many other undergraduate programs as an enabler for young talents to explore, discover, thrive and achieve beyond the confines of their campus walls. It provides them a glimpse into the real working world across borders and cultures. This type of exposure is particularly vital given the intense changes we see in the global business landscape today.
The tax profession has evolved significantly over the years and continues to do so in line with regulatory developments, technological advancement and innovation. With disruptions such as those arising from climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic impacting our day-to-day lives and economies around the world, governments and businesses look to Tax professionals as trusted advisors. We are helping organizations and businesses transform and build future-focused tax and finance functions, embedding leading practices and agility in their long-term strategic road maps. By leveraging our experience, knowledge and insights, we are also uniquely positioned to help provide strategic, viable solutions to facilitate business and commerce as well as sustainable progress and development.
“This is what the EY YTPY program is committed to developing. The success of the program over the past ten years is testament to the close collaboration between EY, LHDNM and institutions of higher learning in our aligned objectives to foster growth, development and excellence for talents, the tax profession and industry in Malaysia” added Farah.
Hisham Halim, Partner, Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd and Program Director of EY Young Tax Professional of the Year Malaysia, shared, “The EY YTPY program is a platform for our young talents to apply their skills to real issues affecting multinational corporations today. The program is designed to encourage the participants to consider and apply various perspectives when dealing with issues that impact businesses. It allows them to showcase their ability to interpret, analyze, innovate and adapt under rigorous conditions to deliver creative and outstanding tax solutions.”
“Our panel of judges, comprising representatives from LHDNM and EY are impressed by the depth of response to the case study and the high standard of presentations by all the 15 semi-finalists. We have no doubt that Vincent Lui will do Malaysia proud at the international competition.”
