Machiel Gosschalk supports successors and current owners of family businesses throughout the processes of takeover, training, and maintaining family harmony. He does this based on the common future vision for the business and family life.
He studied Commercial Economics at Hogeschool Amsterdam, followed by Business Administration at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He has been working at EY since 2013 and, among other things, also manages the EY NextGen Academy, EY NextGen/CurrentGen Events, and cooperation with the UvA. In addition to his work at EY, Machiel Best is Young Professional of the Year 2018/2019, style icon for the fashion label Oger by Atelier Munro, and manager of the Rahma Fund of female business owner Rahma el Mouden.
“I’m the fifth generation of a family business myself, and recognize the issues and emotions. Failed follow-up often results from poor communication. I ask honest questions that are not often discussed. “As a father, who do you consider to be the best successor?” Or, for the NextGeners: “Are you sure you want to become the boss? Or would you actually be much happier in a different role?”
How Machiel is building a better working world
“My work mainly revolves around feelings, deep emotions. What is the most important thing here? Maintaining the connection.”
