Actuarial - Life Insurance Graduate

Actuarial - Life Insurance

This is an opportunity to become part of our success story. We have a strong reputation in the market for bringing our clients' bespoke offerings to solve their problems.

We are more than just a conventional actuarial consultancy. As well as delivering for our clients in the traditional actuarial areas, such as audit, mergers and acquistions, and capital modelling, we operate as part of the wider EY Consulting business. This gives our team the opportunity to work on wider projects including finance transformation, implementation of technology, ESG, strategy, risk management, analytics and capital optimisation.

From emerging markets to tech-driven disruption, there are lots of new challenges facing the insurance industry. As part of the EMEIA (Europe, Middle East, India and Africa) Insurance Risk and Actuarial Services team, we offer planning and strategic solutions to help clients manage risks and grow.

We’re proud to have won the award for The Times ‘Graduate Employer of Choice’ in 2021 for our Actuarial work.

Technology in Actuarial - Life Insurance

Technology plays a huge part in our team. We innovate and come up with creative solutions to problems we see day-to-day on our projects such as using cloud-hosted applications that use artificial intelligence to validate data and predict metrics.

You'll get the opportunity to develop ideas with support from peers and assist with the development of solutions, building your technical skills.

What will you be doing?

  • Analysing data to identify trends and insights, communicating with clients, writing reports and presenting your work
  • Developing dashboards, producing visualisations and performing analytics to support client needs
  • Contributing to actuarial audits, mergers and acquisitions, actuarial modelling and more
  • Communicating with people in our UK offices and across EMEIA
  • Are you eligible to apply?

We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will, however, need to be working towards an honours degree in a numbers-based subject like Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science or Technology, have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths, and three A-levels (with an A in A-level Maths)/Five Highers (or equivalent) to be eligible to apply.

We welcome applications from all academic backgrounds and are looking for individuals who will succeed at EY in the desired role and future qualifications, therefore throughout our recruitment process your academic performance will be considered against your online assessment scores to determine your suitability for an EY role. We are also proud to partner with RARE recruitment, so that your application can be processed in the context of your socio-economic background. This allows us to give you the maximum credit for your achievements, assessing whether you have overachieved in light of your personal circumstances.

Professional qualifications

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries

Programme length

Two years. However, we'll provide continued support and training to help graduates to qualify as actuaries, which typically takes 3-5 years in total.

Salary

Competitive

    How’s it structured?

After completing the EY induction, you'll jump into the deep end and get involved in live client projects. We'll provide you with the support you need to understand how to analyse client data, spot trends and provide clients with insights. You'll build skills in writing up findings into reports and create client presentations that set out our findings and insights.

By your second year, you'll be responsible for supporting our new graduates and reviewing their work. You'll take a bigger role on projects, with a more client facing role. You may also have the opportunity to work on projects in other actuarial areas (non-life insurance and pensions) too.

Throughout the programme, you’ll study for actuarial professional exams (supported by a generous allowance) and have many opportunities to join training events and conferences. By the time the graduate programme is over, you’ll have a firm understanding of how to use analysis and modelling techniques in order to understand our clients’ businesses and the issues affecting them. Best of all, you’ll be well on your way to a qualification and gaining the knowledge and experience needed to win business for EY, lead projects and progress to more senior positions.
