    Tax at EY

    Tax affects every aspect of our lives (for example allowing schools, hospitals, banks and insurers to operate) and laws are continuously evolving. We help local and global organisations, from individuals and start-ups to influential multinationals companies, manage every element of their tax affairs and tax risk policies. Tax also places a key focus on sustainability - accelerating our client’s sustainability strategy and building long-term value.

    Technology in Tax

    You’ll work closely with colleagues across borders, using EY tools and networks to solve complex business and tax problems. By combining the power of EY’s tax experience with innovative technology, you can help us transform our client’s tax function of the future.

    What will you be doing?

    • Working across various specialist tax teams within UK & Ireland or Financial Services
    • Working directly on technical research alongside senior colleagues
    • Working alongside audit teams assisting in the review of tax disclosures and other tax items in the accounts
    • Interacting with global EY teams on tax compliance engagements and gaining an overview of tax requirements worldwide. 
    • Building important relationships with clients through meetings and day-to-day work 
    • Working alongside other onshore juniors and coordinating with offshore resources
    • You'll be involved in internal business development tasks that help broaden your understanding of the firm and the services we offer
    • Are you eligible to apply?

      If you’re in your penultimate year at university and your course includes a placement year, this programme is for you. We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will however, need to be working towards an honours degree in any subject, and have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths and three A-levels/Five Highers (or equivalent) to be eligible to apply.

      We welcome applications from all academic backgrounds and are looking for individuals who will succeed at EY in the desired role and future qualifications, therefore throughout our recruitment process your academic performance will be considered against your online assessment scores to determine your suitability for an EY role. We are also proud to partner with RARE recruitment, so that your application can be processed in the context of your socio-economic background. This allows us to give you the maximum credit for your achievements, assessing whether you have overachieved in light of your personal circumstances.

    How’s it structured?

    Developing your understanding of local and global tax laws and how businesses operate is at the heart of this programme. As an intern, you'll be able to gain insight into the working life of as a Tax professional in a place where there is wide range of opportunities to learn, grow, challenge yourself and be challenged in a workplace that is dynamic, exciting, and supportive.

    Whether you're based in UK & Ireland or Financial Services, you’ll be learning on-the-job and engaging with clients, gaining exposure to tax projects, understanding legislation and building your technical knowledge by assisting Seniors. And, you'll start working towards the first year of a professional qualification.

    Once you join, you'll be part of a full EY induction where you will meet other interns and become part of a supportive commmunity. You'll also be introduced to the many EY networks and learn about wider projects, wellbeing initiatives, corporate responsibility involvement, office social events, sports teams and more. This will help you build your professional network and understand the wider support available to you.

    At the end of the placement, if all goes well, you could join one of our graduate programmes once you've finished university.
