- Seven-week Summer Immersion Program focuses on data, web development, personal finance and machine learning
- EY hosts and mentors 40 girls in Miami and Seattle as part of the Summer Immersion Program
EY announces its second collaboration with Girls Who Code, a national nonprofit organization that seeks to inspire, educate and prepare girls with computing skills for the 21st century, in the critical movement to close the gender gap in the computing and technology sector.
Reaching thousands of girls through courses in 17 cities nationwide, Girls Who Code’s free seven-week Summer Immersion Program teaches young women, rising high school juniors and seniors, everything from mobile app development to robotics to web design. In addition to classroom curriculum, led and designed by Girls Who Code, participants receive exposure to the world of computer science, with field trips organized and led by EY teams to major companies in the media and technology fields. No prior coding experience is required.
“Women and minorities make up only 20% of the STEM workforce, so there’s a critical need for the work that Girls Who Code is doing. We’re excited to team with them again, to multiply our collective impact, advance gender equality and help young women reimagine their futures in tech,” said Amy Brachio, Partner, Global Advisory Risk and Performance Improvement Leader at Ernst & Young LLP.
As part of this year’s program, EY welcomed 40 girls to workshops hosted at its EY wavespace™ in Miami (June 17–August 2) and Seattle (July 8–August 23). EY wavespace™ is a global network of growth and innovation centers that help clients tap into creative thinking across EY disciplines, experience and industry sectors. These workshops provide an immersive experience for participants on the concepts currently shaping the technology industry.
