Today, Ernst & Young LLP (EY US), opened the doors to its latest EY wavespace™ and Design Studio at the RailYard South End in Charlotte, NC. The EY Charlotte wavespace is part of a global network of growth and innovation centers designed to help businesses navigate the Transformative Age, generate possibilities, find answers faster and align people for decision-making — whether to grow, transform or disrupt. The new Charlotte Design Studio is one of four EY design studios in the US employing digital strategists, product managers, customer and user experience designers, technologists, and visual designers. The design studio leverages user-centric methodologies and cutting-edge tools to help our clients transform their digital customer experiences.

“The new South End location expands our ability to serve our clients and allows our teams to foster an innovative mindset,” said Malcomb Coley, Partner, Ernst & Young LLP and the Charlotte Managing Partner. “The Charlotte wavespace and design studio is where organizations and talent can come together to develop solutions for today’s toughest business challenges, and to inspire community, interconnectivity and growth — regardless of industry.”

In addition to the wavespace and design studio, the 40,000 sq. ft. space will also house seating for solution development, client co-creation and new regional training spaces. Designed by architecture firm Perkins and Will, the South End location utilizes the latest in collaborative physical design and technology to promote an enhanced working environment.

“North Carolina’s strong workforce, and educational and training resources make our state a major technology destination,” said Secretary and State Chief Information Officer Eric Boyette. “The EY wavespace innovation center will create more opportunities for Charlotte and the state to continue to be on the forefront of innovation.”

To bring the space to life while connecting with Charlotte’s history of innovation, the team met with local legends Harvey Gantt and Hugh McColl, as well as historian Tom Hanchett, to discuss the rich history of innovation in Charlotte. This manifested itself into a timeline of important moments of innovation in Charlotte that will take those who visit the space on a journey through the evolution of our city. The importance of the railroad to Charlotte’s history is also integrated into the architectural design of the space, along with murals painted by local artist Matt Hooker that are an abstract interpretation of the future-looking, disruptive thinking that occurs in the design studio and wavespace.

“By combining EY global innovation expertise with the creative and disruptive momentum happening here in Charlotte, we will help establish this city as the next innovation and startup hub in the United States. We are proud to be part of defining this next chapter for Charlotte,” said Brad Wallace, a Principal in the Ernst & Young LLP Digital Advisory practice.

The EY expansion in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County was facilitated, in part, by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. For more information on EY wavespace and its locations, visit ey.com wavespace.
