Alexey Repik

EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2021 Judge

Founder and Chairman, R-Pharm

Alexey’s prescription for building a pharma giant is to think big and go global.

Sometimes, the biggest successes start with a failure. When Alexey Repik was unable to earn a place in university, he went to work in a state hospital instead, earning just US$50 a month. He worked hard to learn how the health care system worked and how to improve it. Armed with his newfound knowledge, he sold his car, borrowed US$15,000 from his mother and founded R-Pharm.

Alexey was just 22 years old at the time, and in the two decades since, he has transformed R-Pharm into a pharmaceutical giant with annual sales of over US$2b and a workforce of 4,500 employees. Today, the company is the largest supplier of medicines to hospitals in Russia.

Alexey was named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2014 Russia.

He lives by the motto, “If you have a chance to widen your world, take it,” and he has successfully created an international company, with 70 branches spread across 30 countries.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexey and his team worked quickly with their partners to devise a plan to fight the virus. They engaged in the development of new medicines, vaccines and diagnostic tests, receiving early regulatory approval for the use of the antiviral drug Coronavir to treat patients suffering from COVID-19.

If you have a chance to widen your world, take it.
