Experienced tax professional focused on global and US tax policy and international tax planning.

Michael is the Leader of the US National Tax Department. Prior to re-joining EY in 2011, he served at the US Treasury Department as the Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, heading the Office of Tax Policy during the Obama Administration.

Michael began practicing tax law in 1993 at a New York law firm before moving to the US Treasury Department in 1997. Michael worked in both the Clinton and Bush Administrations, leaving the Treasury Department in 2002 as the Deputy International Tax Counsel to join EY as a Partner in the International Tax Services group within the National Tax Department.

Michael earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, a JD from the University of California Berkeley and an LLM from the University of Miami.
