Speaking up and taking action to combat Pan-Asian racism

The increase in anti-Asian racism and violence that we’ve witnessed in the last year is reflective not only of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the historic acts of exclusion and marginalization of Pan-Asians throughout our country’s history. Over the past few weeks, we have conducted listening sessions with our Pan-Asian community to understand experiences and feedback. Listening is a critical step to making progress and it is our responsibility to do that for our people, our clients and our community. To build on that responsibility, we would like to preview our commitments to continue centering anti-racism in our mission to foster a world that is fair and just.

EY is creating a new Social Justice Fund. Through this fund, we will support organizations that are working to create the equitable world in which we all want to live. This support will expand on our existing commitments to advancing awareness and driving meaningful change in our communities. 

Among the first organizations that we will support is Ascend, the largest non-profit organization for Pan-Asian professionals. We have a strong and collaborative relationship with Ascend, grounded in a common commitment to allyship and advocacy. Our commitment will allow us to be a lead founding partner of the Ascend Impact Fund to raise awareness of the history and prevalence of anti-Asian racism, challenge the model minority myth and create sustainable change.

We will also support Pan-Asian entrepreneurs and businesses through our Entrepreneur Access Network.

Going forward, we will engage all of our EY people to help us identify and evaluate other organizations that we will support through our Social Justice Fund and EY anti-racism platform.

EY is also committed to supporting the recruitment, retention and promotion of our diverse professionals regardless of their race or ethnicity. Building on our programs and networks, we will continue to strengthen our efforts to proactively support equitable career advancement, mentorship and sponsorship.

These commitments reflect our belief that we all have a shared responsibility to combat the biases and stereotypes that lead to prejudice and its violent expression. We must continue to speak up and speak out in order to create the future our world deserves.
