Dr. Miin Wu, Chairman and CEO, Macronix International Co., Ltd.

Dr. Miin Wu has never been afraid to challenge the status quo. At a time when many of Taiwan’s technology professionals were migrating to the United States to pursue careers, he decided to reverse the brain drain and moved back to his homeland. In 1989 he founded Macronix, one of Taiwan’s first semiconductor businesses.

Under Miin’s leadership, Macronix became the first high-tech company to be listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and is now a global leader in non-volatile memory products, selling over 2.1 billion memory chips a year on average. The company is particularly successful in the auto industry, where it is one of the world’s top three automotive electronic component suppliers.

Innovation is at the heart of the business. Macronix invests more than 10% of its revenue in R&D and to date has created more than 7,600 patents. Miin also believes in encouraging new talent and has started an education foundation focused on science and technology training. More than 20,000 students have passed through its doors, providing the next generation of talent for Taiwan’s technology sector.
