Val qualified as a Chartered Accountant after attending Rhodes University. She also holds a Higher Diploma in Taxation from the University of the Witwatersrand.
She joined EY to complete her Audit traineeship and then moved into the Tax Business where she progressed her career to advising on large cross border merger and acquisition transactions and was acknowledged in a leading Tax Publication as one of South Africa’s leading tax professionals.
Val became a member of EY’s Executive Committee and was appointed as the leader of the Tax Service Line in 2003. She then took on the role as Chief Operating Office for Africa. In her role, Val is responsible for strategy formulation and supporting other business leaders to execute strategy whilst, ensuring that the operations of the business run effectively and efficiently across the Region.
How Val is building a better working world
I am passionate about coaching and mentoring people – particularly young women. I take pride in the number of people that I have guided onto, and along a more successful and fulfilling journey, be it professionally, academically and even in their personal lives.
