Nadiem Makarim

Founder and CEO

PT Go-Jek Indonesia

Nadiem Makarim is CEO of Go-Jek, Indonesia’s first tech unicorn and No. 17 on the Fortune 2017 Change the World list. Nadiem is on a mission to prove that “technology is the greatest tool for economic nation-building,” and he is determined to unlock Indonesia’s potential through transformative digital innovations.

Nadiem founded Go-Jek in 2010 and has transformed it from a motorbike ride-hailing app into Indonesia’s hottest tech company. It has grown to combine human transport with logistics, food delivery and other on-demand services, all supported by an integrated payment system. Go-Jek partners with more than 900,000 drivers, 125,000 food merchants and 30,000 other service providers.

He is particularly proud of the company’s positive impact on unemployment in Indonesia, helping to generate an income for so many micro-entrepreneurs. This, for him, is what success is really about: “the number of people whose lives you’ve changed for the better.”
