The SGV Foundation announced today the start of the nomination period for the Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines 2019 at the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in the Washington SyCip Development Center in Makati. The MOA was signed and witnessed by co-presenters who have supported the program over the past 10 years. These include the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Philippine Business for Social Progress; official media BusinessWorld and the ABS-CBN News Channel; and the official airline Philippine Airlines. Former finalists and winners graced the event, led by Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines 2017, Mrs. Natividad Cheng, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of Multiflex RNC Philippines, Inc.
The theme for the 2019 program is Disrupt. Transform. Inspire! which captures the power of a single idea that can spark a business evolution, create new possibilities, or even change the world. Visionary entrepreneurs leverage on new ideas to challenge old paradigms and seize opportunities to develop sustainable enterprises that have the potential to transform industries and support economic development. The Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2019 program recognizes outstanding Filipino entrepreneurs who work with relentless determination and purpose. They are individuals who thrive in the age of disruption and lead enterprises that can inspire and empower communities and uplift the nation.
Since the program was first launched in 2003, the Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines has become one of the most prestigious awards programs in the local business community. The program recognizes the strength, dynamism, and resilience of Filipino entrepreneurs for creating and operating sustainable, successful enterprises.
The search is open to all Filipino entrepreneurs. To be eligible, a nominee must be a Filipino business owner or founder who is primarily responsible for the growth of his or her company. The nominee must still be active in business, which must have been in operation for at least two years. A completed nomination form, audited financial statements, and other business documents are required for a nomination to be considered for further judging. About the Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines
The Entrepreneur Of The Year program was founded in the United States by Ernst & Young, or EY, in 1986 to recognize the achievements of outstanding entrepreneurs with successful, growing and dynamic businesses.
In 2001, EY expanded the program and launched the World Entrepreneur Of The Year awards. In the Philippines, the SGV Foundation, Inc. established the Entrepreneur Of The Year program in 2003.
A highly distinguished panel of independent judges composed of leaders from government, business, and academe will evaluate nominees in areas such as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their business, employees and community.
The very first winner of the Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines was Jollibee Foods Corporation President and CEO, Tony Tan Caktiong, who then went on to win the 2004 World Entrepreneur Of The Year award in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Other past awardees include Socorro “Nanay Coring” Cancio-Ramos, Founder and General Manager of National Book Store (2004); Lance Gokongwei, President and CEO of Cebu Air, Inc.; Senen Bacani, Chairman and President of La Frutera, Inc.; Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, Jr., President and CEO of Alaska Milk Corporation; Ambassador Jesus P. Tambunting, Chairman and President of Planters Development Bank; Tennyson Chen, President of Bounty Fresh Food Inc; Erramon I. Aboitiz, President and CEO of Aboitiz Power Corporation; Jaime I. The program currently runs in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries. Each country sends its winner to the World Entrepreneur Of The Year held annually in Monte Carlo.
