Accounting depreciation is the systematic allocation of the depreciable amount of an asset over its useful life. From a tax perspective, the cost of assets is capital in nature and is not deductible.

However, capital allowances are available on capital expenditure incurred on the provision of machinery or plant for the purposes of the company’s trade, profession or business. Land Intensification Allowance (LIA) can be claimed on qualifying capital expenditure incurred on the construction of a qualifying building or structure.

To maximise the available claims on capital expenditure incurred, it is critical to understand what qualifies for capital allowance and LIA, and the practical issues that arise.

Join us at this workshop where we will discuss the practical considerations related to capital allowance and LIA claims. We will also discuss some Singapore tax cases on capital allowance and highlight common mistakes in the computation of capital allowance.
