SocialStarters' mission is to bring together talented business professionals with grassroots entrepreneurs tackling issues in their communities - to share skills, solve problems, generate new ideas and provide a platform for cross-cultural co-creation, knowledge sharing and long term impact.

Anna Moran is the co-founder of _SocialStarters, a UK based social enterprise who provide pro bono Consultancy assignments with social enterprises around the world.Anna joined the EY Foundation’s Accelerate programme with a unique business challenge - how could she get professional expertise into the hands of social entrepreneurs in emerging markets whilst balancing the volunteers existing work commitments in the UK and at the same time providing a meaningful and impactful exchange.

With the support of her Accelerate business coach Saad Akhbar and guidance from Accelerate sponsor partner Gavin Jordan, _SocialStarters developed their business offer that balances the needs of the enterprises they organisation supports and the availability of consultants in the UK.

"This new opportunity gives Analysts and Consultants the chance to get an authentic taste of what it's like out in the field in India, by being a business mentor for two weeks. India is an exciting emerging market, Hyderabad itself a start-up mecca, a foodie's paradise too - and you would be supporting incredibly inspiring entrepreneurs" said Anna.

_SocialStarters has helped match over 120 'Social Impact Consultants' with meaningful projects and game-changing start-ups around the world. _SocialStarters’ new 2 Week Consultancy Assignment scheme provides a more manageable way for the professional who wants to give their time and share their skills.

Gavin Jordan, commented:

I'm delighted that as a result of our support the team at _SocialStarters have curated a new way to do pro bono work whilst at the same time having a unique travel adventure."

Linda Coyle, an investment and business development advisor from Ireland did an assignment in Hyderabad in June 2016 with car-pooling start-up RideIT,

"When I saw the advert for an assignment to work as an Investment Advisor with a startup in Hyderabad, India, I jumped at the opportunity. I had done similar work with startups here in the UK but I had never been to India and wanted to develop my skills in a new marketplace. I really enjoyed working with them..... a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget."

The work involved everything from writing their business plan, capturing their marketing plan, going through their financial projections in detail, to amending their investor pitch and contacting as many VC funds, Seed funds and business angels as possible.

Anna told us that the 2-Week Consultancy Assignment has been designed with busy Consultants in mind. "This isn't about quitting your job and going travelling around the world to find more meaning in your life" she told us, "it's about an incredibly unique 2-week adventure - taking on a socially impactful consultancy assignment in order to do something completely different from your usual vacation."
