Doug’s self-motivation and determination was tested when he suffered a horrific car accident at 20, leaving him hospitalised for a year and learning to walk again.

During his recuperation he assessed his goals and, having joined McDonald’s in 1981, focused on becoming a franchisee. Taking great personal risk, Wright Restaurants was established in 2002. His McDonald’s restaurants are recognised for their low staff turnover, excellent training opportunities and diverse workforce.

Throughout his career, Doug has always been committed to giving back to the community, including setting up the Ronald McDonald House in central Birmingham, giving 66 families a home away from home while their children are treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, mentoring others, and actively supporting community projects.
