EY partner recognised as top 50 ‘Power Part Timer’

EY partner, Fiona Sheridan, has been named as an inspirational role model in the Power Part Time Top 50 list, which recognises the UK’s most senior level part time workers.

Compiled by Timewise Jobs, a specialist jobsite for professional part time roles, and an independent panel of judges, the list aims to debunk the myth that only low skilled, low paid jobs can work on a part time basis.

Fiona Sheridan is a client facing partner at EY and has worked flexibly for the last 14 years, varying her patterns according to her family’s, her own and the business’ needs. She now works four days a week and is responsible for developing new business and leading teams to deliver multiple client projects.

Fiona’s career has gone from strength to strength while working part time, becoming a member of the leadership team for the UK firm’s advisory business in 2010, where she was led the people strategy for more than 1000 team members.

Timewise Jobs’ founder and judge Karen Mattison MBE, who led the initiative from the start commented: “Fiona is a true Power Part Timer – a leader who enjoys unparalleled success, and who does it all in less than 5 days a week. People such as Fiona are helping to pave the way for others who want to continue their stellar careers, on a part time or flexible basis.”

Steve Varley, UK Chairman and managing partner at EY, added: “As a judge on the programme, I was deeply inspired by everyone’s stories – each a trailblazer, making the difference to how Britain works now and in the future. I was also encouraged by the real diversity of the people and perspectives represented.

“To achieve a flexible working culture requires a high-trust workplace environment, leadership from the top and individual accountability. Everyone on the list brings this fundamental leadership to their businesses. Most vitally they demonstrate that working less than full-time is not an inhibitor to success. There are times in all our careers, including my own, when we need to work more flexibly, but reduced hours never means reduced commitment.”

The Power Part Time List was based on nominations from members of the public. After hearing from hundreds of people, a panel of judges ranked the top 50 individuals who were deemed to be the most outstanding. The judges were:

  • Karen Mattison MBE, founder of Timewise Jobs
  • Steve Varley, EY, managing partner for the UK and Ireland
  • Emma De Vita, Management Today magazine, Features Editor,
  • Lynn Rattigan, EY, Deputy Chief Operating Officer (who works 4 days/wk herself, due to having two three-year-old twins)
