London, Thursday 03 April 2014: EY has been named as one of the UK’s leading employers, receiving a coveted place in the Times’ Top 50 Employers for Women list, which was published today.

The Times’ Top 50 is compiled in partnership with Opportunity Now, the workplace gender campaign by Business in the Community. The listing celebrates organisations that are committed to promoting diversity and supporting women in the workplace. Companies also had to demonstrate that gender equality was an integral part of their business strategy.

EY is the only professional services firm in the UK to have publically announced aspirational diversity targets, and is aiming for 30% of all new partner admissions to be women by 2015 and 10% to be BME. The firm is also investing in its talent pipeline through a successful maternity coaching programme, its UK women’s network, and career watch mentoring schemes for high potential women and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals.

Liz Bingham, EY’s Managing Partner for Talent in the UK & Ireland comments: “I am really proud of the steps we are taking to improve the diversity of our workforce, from graduate entry to the boardroom. We firmly believe that diverse organisations make better business decisions and are vital to attracting and retaining the best people.

“In our experience, diversity needs constant, close attention for any sustainable change to take place. Progress takes time, but setting targets with teeth and holding ourselves accountable for those targets ensures this important issue remains at the top of our agenda.”

Kathryn Nawrockyi, Director of Opportunity Now, said: “Congratulations to EY on being included in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2014. The standard of entries was incredibly high once again, and they should be hugely proud of their success. They are a great example of strong leadership; of how putting gender equality at the core of a business can create real, sustainable change for women, organisations and society as a whole. I hope other employers will be inspired by their work and use it to accelerate progress for women in their workforce.”

The Times Top 50 process

Opportunity Now managed The Times Top 50 Employers for Women list and judging process.  Entry was by self nomination and open to any employer with a UK presence. Employers had to supply detailed information on what their organisation does internally as a top employer for women as well as what it does externally to promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion and to create opportunities for women in a wider context. Organisations were required to supply two case study stories of specific initiatives/programmes which demonstrated the work they were doing to create culture change. All the 4,500 word entry forms were stringently marked against a framework of best practice. The entries were assessed on an anonymous basis by a team of gender experts within Opportunity Now.
