  • Brachio brings more than 25 years of experience advising global companies

The EY organization announces the appointment of Amy Brachio as EY Global Vice Chair – Sustainability, reporting to Carmine Di Sibio, EY Global Chairman and CEO, as of 1 July.

Brachio, previously EY Global Deputy Vice Chair – Sustainability, will work across the four EY service lines to spearhead the overall EY global sustainability strategy and help EY clients adopt innovations and technologies that create long-term value through inclusive, sustainable growth. In this role, Brachio will be responsible for creating and driving policies and programs to help the EY organization provide leading sustainable business solutions, practices and operations. She will also lead the overall environmental and sustainability strategy in the EY organization across the globe, helping to reduce its impact on the environment along with its carbon footprint.

Carmine Di Sibio, EY Global Chairman and CEO, says:

“I’m thrilled that Amy will lead this critical agenda for the EY organization and for clients, who are looking to us for support. Amy’s experience combining growth, risk and consumer protection in banking brings further momentum at a key point in this agenda, to further support the environmental strategy, skills, stakeholder and client engagement.”

Brachio has over 25 years of experience in supporting large financial institutions on their consumer protection agendas and advising leaders on risk, resilience and transformation. Prior to her EY Global Deputy Vice Chair – Sustainability role, Brachio was the EY Global Business Consulting Leader and she will continue leading work with EY clients to improve value from their sustainability strategy for their business, their people and the planet, and to support their net zero progress. Brachio is an active leader focused on the advancement of diversity and inclusiveness, with a lifelong commitment to social inclusion and a passion and purpose to drive the EY organization’s broader education agenda, specifically in green skills. She has served on multiple boards and held several officer positions with organizations dedicated to social good, as well as those committed to advancing women in technology. Brachio was also recently invited to serve a two-year term on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council.

Brachio says: “I’m looking forward to supporting the global sustainability agenda that we’ve already built, and to tackling all that we have to do. EY clients need our help in achieving their sustainability ambitions and we must pursue our own carbon ambition to reach net zero, while supporting EY people to learn new skills they can use to build a more sustainable world. I’m determined to continue this work, as part of my own life-long passion for making a positive social impact.”

Brachio succeeds Steve Varley in the role, who will continue to serve as EY Global Senior Advisor for the EY organization on key sustainability engagements, including COP28. During Varley’s leadership, the EY organization launched a new, industry-leading organizational environmental sustainability strategy in targeting net zero through a 40% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2025 across scope 1, 2 and 3 against a 2019 baseline. A seven-point plan targets integrated decarbonization, including emissions linked to energy, travel, procurement, buildings and client work.

Varley will retire from the EY organization in 2024, having held a number of significant leadership roles at the organization, including serving as EY UK & Ireland Regional Managing Partner and UK Chairman. During this nine-year tenure, he drove an inclusive and green growth strategy, doubling revenues.
