The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program was created in the United States by Ernst & Young in 1986 to honor entrepreneurs whose ingenuity and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. Today, the awards program has expanded to more than 135 cities in over 50 countries around the globe. It is also recognized as one of the most prestigious international business awards in the world, having been dubbed the "Oscars" for business.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program was launched in Singapore in 2002 to coincide with the government’s focus on fostering entrepreneurship and grooming local entrepreneurs to take on the world market. Now in its seventh year, the awards program has evolved into a pre-eminent business award in the local business scene. It aims to encourage the best entrepreneurs to step forward as outstanding entrepreneurial role models, and take up the challenge of representing Singapore at the annual Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
