Four other awards presented for entrepreneurial excellence at the prestigious gala event.

Chu Jenn Weng of ViTrox Corporation Bhd was named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ (EOY) 2022 Malaysia. The 53-year-old President and CEO of ViTrox was selected from among 13 Top Nominees vying for the title.

Chu started ViTrox from his bedroom in a student apartment and under his stewardship, ViTrox launched its first 3D vision inspection system for semiconductor components in 2004 and raced on to become what it is today - a global industry leader in machine vision technology.

The announcement was made at the prestigious EOY 2022 Malaysia Awards Gala held at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, 12 January 2023. The event was graced by Guest-of-honor, YB Tuan Steven Sim, Deputy Minister of Finance II, and attended by over 400 guests.

In addition to the top honor, EY also presented four other awards to the following category winners announced that evening:

EY Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year 2022 Malaysia – Nicole Lim, Empire Sushi Sdn Bhd

EY Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year 2022 Malaysia – Sashi Kumar A. Kovindasamy, ATX Distribution Sdn Bhd

EY Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year 2022 Malaysia - Anna Teo, Hernan Corporation Sdn Bhd

Chu will represent Malaysia on the international stage in June 2023 to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ (WEOY) 2023 award in Monte Carlo, Monaco. And for the first time in the history of the EOY Malaysia programme, a woman was named winner in the Emerging Category award!

Dato’ Abdul Rauf Rashid, Malaysia Managing Partner, Ernst & Young PLT, said, “The EOY programme is about recognizing the entrepreneurial spirit of extraordinary men and women who have gone on to build and open doors for themselves and countless others. Even during the most challenging times, they have stepped up and persevered against all odds in pursuing their unstoppable ambition for a better working world that is equitable and sustainable.”

They are also transforming lives by contributing to the economy and society, and along the way, they are inspiring other budding entrepreneurs to follow suit,” he added.
