Wasef Jabsheh, CEO and Vice Chairman, International General Insurance Holdings Ltd.

While working in the insurance industry for 16 years, Wasef Jabsheh realized that Middle Eastern companies have always relied on international and European companies for reinsurance because there was no distinct domestic alternative. Hungry for a new challenge, he decided that he would be the one to break the status quo and create that alternative. He founded International General Insurance (IGI) in 2001 with the aim of forming a Middle Eastern reinsurer to support the entire region.

Under Wasef’s leadership, IGI is now one of the most successful reinsurance companies in the Middle East and Northern Africa region. He has transformed it into a truly global company, writing 15 lines of business in more than 200 countries across the world.

In a mainly male-dominated sector, Wasef has bucked convention. IGI boasts a 50:50 male to female ratio among its staff, who come from more than 15 different countries. Wasef explains, “We want to do more to promote diversity in the workplace because we believe that diverse and inclusive businesses are more innovative, creative and profitable.”
