After watching the climate change documentary An Inconvenient Truth, David Yeung became determined to make food production more sustainable and reduce the world’s meat consumption. On Earth Day in 2012, he kickstarted his mission with the launch of Green Monday.

What started as a campaign to encourage people in Hong Kong to give up meat every Monday has evolved into a business that consists of a social branch and two business branches. The social side, under the name Green Monday Foundation, drives advocacy campaigns to raise awareness. On the business side, Green Monday Holdings entails sustainable food retail and distribution under Green Common and food technology innovations under OmniFoods. Green Monday Ventures is the impact investing arm.

The company’s plant-based grocery, food and beverage store, Green Common, now has 10 branches across Hong Kong and new outlets in Shanghai and Singapore. It has also become the distributor of choice for overseas plant-based brands that want to break into the Asian market. OmniPork, its plant-based ground pork alternative, has found huge success, and the company has launched other meat alternatives under the OmniFoods brand. David sees his role as “not just a passion but a responsibility.”
