When avid gamer Ian Ang couldn’t find an ergonomic chair to support his favorite pastime, he decided that he would build one himself. Realizing that he was not the only gamer looking for a specialized gaming chair, he cofounded Secretlab in 2014 to meet the demand.
He and his co-founder were determined that “every tiny detail of the chair was right,” and their persistence paid off when they sold out of their first batch of chairs within a week. The company was immediately profitable, which led Ian to drop out of college and focus full-time on his budding enterprise.
Ian has driven rapid growth at Secretlab since the start: “There’s a saying at Secretlab that we always treat each day as if it’s day one. We grow or we die.” He also has overseen Secretlab’s growth from a local company to an international brand leader, with products now sold in more than 60 countries. The secret to Secretlab’s success has been to invest significantly in R&D so that the Secretlab experience is always improving.
