Dato’ Kamarul Redzuan Muhamed of Uzma Berhad was named the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ (EOY) 2025 Malaysia at an award ceremony hosted by EY earlier this evening. Dato’ Kamarul was also named the winner of the Master Entrepreneur category. The 53-year-old Group CEO of Uzma Berhad was selected from among 13 Top Nominees vying for the award.
Dato’ Kamarul will represent Malaysia on the international stage in May 2026 to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) 2026 award in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Uzma Berhad was founded in 2000 as an oil and gas service provider before diversifying into renewable energy and geospatial intelligence. The company emphasizes sustainable practices, aiming to formalize emissions management and align with Malaysia’s climate goals, all while maintaining zero environmental spills and lost time incidents.
Recently, Uzma Berhad achieved a three-star rating in the FTSE4GOOD Bursa Malaysia Index, reflecting its commitment to responsible business practices. Under the strategic leadership of Dato’ Kamarul, the company has recently launched its own satellite, UzmaSAT-1, advancing Malaysia’s space-tech frontier. With presence in 36 countries, Dato’ Kamarul envisions transforming the company into a diversified builder of businesses that can identify gaps, launch new ventures and sustain them for the long-term.
Philip Rao, EOY Malaysia Program Director and Partner, Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn. Bhd. (EY Malaysia) said, “Every year, all nominees of the EOY program go through a rigorous independent judging process using EOY’s global judging criteria of entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, impact and growth. I salute the judges for their hard work and dedication in making tough decisions on the category and country winners.
“Dato’ Kamarul truly embodies our theme The Shapers – transforming the conventional, and shaping Uzma into a diversified group with cutting edge technology and business sustainability at the core. This year, Dato’ Kamarul stands out as a first among equals, shaping Uzma with confidence, and we truly believe that he is an inspiring recipient of the EOY award,” he added.
Dato’ Abdul Rauf Rashid, Malaysia Managing Partner, EY Malaysia said, “For 24 years, the EOY initiative has celebrated not only the remarkable achievements of our entrepreneurs but also the spirit of innovation and resilience that defines our business community.
“Our Top Nominees are exceptional individuals who reflects this year’s theme The Shapers, which recognizes entrepreneurs who navigate challenges while also actively shaping a brighter tomorrow for our economy and society. Their visionary leadership and creativity pave the way for future generations, much like the artistry of batik-making — meticulously crafted layer by layer, reflecting the beauty of collaboration and craftsmanship,” he added.
In his address at the event, Minister of Finance II, Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said: “The Government remains dedicated to supporting local businesses through initiatives that promote digital transformation, collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as the upskilling of future leaders. Our policy-making efforts, such as through the Ekonomi MADANI framework, Budget 2026 and 13th Malaysia Plan, are aimed at supporting the entrepreneurial essence and to foster growth and innovation in the sector.
