Sharon Yong serves as the Malaysia Sustainability Tax Leader. She is also part of the International Tax and Transactions Services (ITTS) team in Malaysia, bringing over 22 years of expertise in mergers and acquisitions (M&As) and tax advisory. Her extensive experience encompasses Malaysian corporate income tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty, real property gains tax and international tax matters.
Sharon has broad experience in M&As, specializing in tax structuring, due diligence and reviewing transaction documents across diverse sectors including financial services, oil and gas and renewables.
In her sustainability tax leadership role, Sharon advises clients on tax governance and transparency and actively engages clients on tax considerations within the environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda. She is a frequent speaker and panelist at seminars and conferences and has published multiple articles on ESG-related tax matters, such as carbon pricing and carbon markets.
Her industry focus spans power and utilities, private equity and renewable energy, helping clients navigate evolving the tax landscape while building resilience and long-term value.
Sharon holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Financial Management and Economics from the University of Sheffield, UK. She is a Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a Council Member of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM).
