I deal with the cool new stuff, as I sometimes say. Whether it’s AI, machine learning, DevOps or, for example, the Cloud.

Paul van der Waaij

EY Netherlands Partner Financial Services

Strategically minded. Hands-on. Results-oriented. He manages the framework and then gives colleagues the freedom to come up with surprising solutions by themselves.

Paul van der Waaij assists banks, insurers and asset managers in making optimal use of technology and data, in order to improve and renew their services and operations.

He studied Business Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam and has been working at EY since 2016. Previously worked at another leading consultancy and has more than twenty years’ experience in IT consultancy.

“Technology isn’t the biggest challenge, but rather: how to use it? And how do you really create value? For example, by using new business models or streamlining operations. I also bridge the gap between technology and business. Two worlds that often speak different languages.  A techie might consider the technical details, while a chief marketing officer looks at customers and conversion, for example. Both perspectives are valuable, I simply bring them together.”

How Paul is building a better working world

“As a six year-old, I was already sitting at my Commodore 64. Programming and playing games, which I loved. I still deal with the cool new stuff, as I sometimes say. Whether it’s AI, machine learning, robotics, DevOps or, for example, the Cloud. The iPhone was introduced in 2007, which I consider a turning point. Everyone could see how IT got moved from the back office to front office. Just look, you have a phone in your hand all day long now. That’s a fantastic innovation which has changed our world.”
