Mehmet Ali Aydınlar, Chairman, Acıbadem Sağlık Grubu (Acıbadem Healthcare Group)

Motivated by a passion for his country’s health care, Mehmet Ali Aydınlar wanted to reverse a worrying trend: Turks who could afford the expense would travel abroad for treatments due to limited facilities in Turkey. His solution was to create a homegrown alternative that offered the very best in health care, and in 1991, he founded the first Acıbadem Hospital.

Since then, he has overseen Acıbadem Healthcare Group’s growth into one of the world’s largest health care institutions, with a market cap greater than US$3b. It now encompasses 22 hospitals and 15 medical centers across Macedonia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Turkey, employing over 23,000 people, of which 60% are women.

Through Acıbadem, Mehmet Ali has not only provided Turkish people with world-class health care facilities but has also made Turkey a go-to destination for foreigners looking for excellent and affordable treatment.
