Jacques is a Hong Kong based Financial Services Tax Senior Manager within the International Tax and Transaction Services team at EY Hong Kong.
Jacques brings in diverse experiences in international taxation and the financial services sector. He assists financial institutions in the banking & capital markets sector and clients in the private equity & wealth management sectors in planning their tax strategies in Asia Pacific.
Jacques has advised financial services clients on inbound and outbound tax structuring projects, mergers and acquisitions, operating model structuring projects, tax health checks, commodity transactions and financial transactions.
Jacques has also been involved in several buy-side and sell-side tax due diligences projects in the financial services industry.
In addition, he has extensive experience in tax treaty issues and international tax policy, and has worked on several tax policy projects for clients, including policy submissions to the OECD.
Prior to joining EY, Jacques worked as Senior Tax Policy Officer in the Tax Treaties Section of the Federal Department of Finance in Canada. During his time as Senior Tax Policy Officer, he participated in the negotiation/re-negotiation of several of Canada’s tax treaties as well as the development of Canada’s tax policy, including OECD BEPS Action 6 (Treaty Abuse), BEPS Action 7 (Avoidance of PE Status) and BEPS Action 15 (Multilateral Instrument).
He holds an LLB from McGill University, LLM from HEC Montreal, and advanced LLM from Leiden University.
