Empowering change – Our commitment to volunteering

At EY Finland, our employees can devote up to 15 working hours per year to EY Ripples volunteering.

At EY, our purpose is Building a better working world. Learn more about us.

We believe businesses have an important role to play in tackling some of society’s toughest challenges and helping foster sustainable, inclusive growth. Through our global corporate volunteering program, EY Ripples, we mobilize EY people, tapping into our wide range of skills and knowledge to achieve a long-term vision — to positively impact one billion lives globally by 2030.

Through EY Ripples, we apply our skills and experiences in pro bono and volunteering settings to make a difference across these focus areas:

These are the areas where we believe our combined capabilities can make the biggest impact and help overcome the biggest challenges to date, as framed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Supporting Ukrainians in Finland with advisory services

EY teams participatee in a project that aims to support Ukrainians who fled the war and were granted temporary protection in Finland. Participants have provided legal, tax, and immigration advisory services through the nonprofit organization FinUA-yhdistys ry, which offers urgent support and job assistance to Ukrainians. EY participants have drafted legal documents and provided urgent legal assistance based on Finnish laws.

Participating in the EY Ripples project to support Ukrainians has been a highly rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to work on cases that extended beyond my usual experience, presenting both a challenge and a valuable learning opportunity. This allowed me to bridge my existing knowledge with new insights, contributing meaningfully to the project's success. Most importantly, being a part of this initiative enabled me to provide crucial support to Ukrainians, creating a significant and positive impact. I am eager to contribute to similar initiatives in the future.
I had just joined EY and was presented the opportunity to participate in the initiative. My previous experience proved invaluable, and the project not only refreshed my knowledge but also refined my ability to communicate complex tax concepts in simple English terms. The impact of EY Ripples projects cannot be overstated. Leveraging one's knowledge to support those in need is both important and inspiring. It is motivating to see dedicated individuals organizing and participating in these initiatives, creating meaningful and positive change in the lives of others. If opportunity arose, I would participate in Ripples again.
As we continue to cultivate a culture of learning and growth, we recognize the immense value in offering our skills to those in need. Through Ripples and the project with FinUA, we empower our employees to gain new skills in everyday legal matters, find a renewed sense of purpose, and expand their professional networks. By working together on meaningful projects, we not only support those who require our knowledge but also enrich our own professional and personal lives.
We are incredibly grateful for the support provided by EY. As a small NGO dedicated to helping Ukrainians settle in Finland, navigating the complexities of tax regulations and legal requirements has always been a significant challenge. The tax and legal advisory services we received were comprehensive and tailored to our specific needs. The EY team demonstrated exceptional knowledge and professionalism throughout the process. The support of EY has made a significant difference in our ability to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve, especially during these challenging times for the Ukrainian community.

Other examples of EY Ripples initiatives

Spouse Program

This is an initiative to assist the spouses of local residents in finding career opportunities in Helsinki. EY collaborates with the City of Helsinki immigration services to organize events that share knowledge, experiences, and networking opportunities for job seekers and professionals. These events include CV workshops, case competitions, networking sessions, and Q&A discussions with industry leaders and experienced expatriates, who share their journeys and strategies for succeeding in the Finnish job market.

180 Degrees

This mentorship initiative pairs experienced professionals with students aspiring to consult for NGOs, providing industry insights and hands-on experience. In collaboration with 180 Degrees Consulting, the program connects university talents with nonprofit organizations, fostering mutually beneficial relationships. EY participants mentored and coached students, aiming to empower future social impact leaders and support nonprofit organizations in achieving their goals.

Zooniverse

EY volunteers have contributed to professional research through the Zooniverse citizen science platform. In FY24, EY Finland supported the Elephant ID research project, which is led by the NGO Elephants for Africa who collects long-term data on various features of elephants. The insights gathered will help generate an accurate elephant ID database and machine learning algorithm capable of re-identifying elephant individuals in camera trap images with the goal of helping researchers better understand elephant social behavior.
