Ryuichi Akutsu is an EY Japan Tax Partner, providing tax compliance and advisory services for Japanese multinational corporations in connection with Japanese and international taxes.
As a tax advisor for over 35 Japanese multinational corporations, he offers a broad range of domestic and international tax advisory services to Japanese companies, from overseas expansion to group reorganization including IHQ/RHQ structure, M&A, and exit structure including liquidation.
In recent years, his focus has expanded to CbCR process-building and risk analysis, as well as support for building global tax management frameworks with consolidated accounting systems and other technology tools.
Earlier in his career, he offered Japanese tax compliance and advisory services for foreign-affiliated corporations. In total, he has almost 20 years of experience in domestic and international tax matters.
He is a licensed tax accountant and a graduate of the Faculty of Law of Gakushuin University, Tokyo.

I always strive to listen closely to the client’s concerns, consider each and every issue in detail, and provide advice from the client’s perspective and with a real sense of ownership, regardless of the size of the project. My overriding aim is to contribute as much as I can, from a tax perspective, to the globalization of Japanese companies and their success overseas.
In the recent past, fewer young people in Japan have been setting their sights on becoming tax accountants. This is why I am keen to be a speaker at professional schools and colleges, and to make media appearances. I want young people to know that it can be fun and interesting to work as a tax accountant at a professional services firm such as EY Japan.
