Mr. Chin Jiun How is the Founder and Managing Director of ILLEGEAR Sdn Bhd. What started out as a hobby, turned into a real passion for Chin, who helped transform the gaming industry by introducing high-performance customised gaming laptops in Malaysia. Since introducing its first custom laptop in Malaysia in 2011, ILLEGEAR has grown from a company with one employee to 40 employees, generating a revenue of RM42 million.

Chin’s vision was to redefine and elevate the role computer systems play in daily life. He focused on broadening the range and options for high-performance gaming and professional laptops, gears and peripherals.

A key challenge faced by Chin as an industry pioneer was building awareness about customized laptops. After years of perseverance, ILLEGEAR succeeded in creating market demand, spurring a competitive industry that benefits customers.

In tandem with ILLEGEAR’s increased recognition, the company is growing its national footprint by expanding its digital and physical presence. ILLEGEAR is investing substantially in digital customer engagement on social media and has more than 80,000 followers. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, ILLEGEAR also operates a concept showroom in Johor and has recently opened another showroom in Penang.

ILLEGEAR practices equal employment opportunities at every level, with 42% women in its management team and more than 90% of their staff are below 40 years old. The company also prioritises recruitment for those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
