European Parliament approves the Commission’s proposal to simplify CBAM
On 22 May 2025, the European Parliament expressed its approval of the EU Omnibus I CBAM simplification package as proposed by the European Commission. The key aspect of the proposal is the introduction of a new exemptions threshold of 50 tons of certain CBAM goods per year per importer. With this threshold companies importing less than 50 tons of CBAM goods per year (except electricity and hydrogen) would be relieved of CBAM obligations (except indirect customs representatives declaring CBAM goods).
Next, the European Parliament will negotiate the final form of the legislation with the European Council. Subsequently, the publication of the final regulation can be expected in the Official Journal of the European Union. Please find more detailed information in our article.
