Morten Christophersen, Miriam Wennberg, Magnus Eikens and Stian Magnusson met while studying at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, connecting over their shared vision and passion for clean energy transitions. They launched ECOnnect Energy AS as a garage startup, initially operating from their parents’ homes, to redefine marine energy infrastructure.
ECOnnect Energy AS uses proprietary floating and low-impact terminal solutions to seamlessly connect vessels, terminals and production areas more quickly and easily than traditional piers, quays and jetties. Their innovative IQuay system offers a more efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional energy transfer methods. This proprietary technology enables the transfer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), renewable fuels and CO2 without the need for fixed infrastructure, significantly reducing costs and environmental impact. The team’s groundbreaking approach led to the world’s first jettyless LNG transfer at Herøya Industrial Park in 2017, marking a pivotal moment in energy distribution.
Today, ECOnnect Energy AS is a key technology provider in the wake of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline sabotage. The company is poised to meet approximately 8.5% of Germany’s energy needs through its system. This advancement not only enhances energy reception but also has a direct impact on electricity prices across Europe.
