GHG Protocol requests information on Actions and Market Instruments

In March 2026, the GHG Protocol issued an RFI on its Actions and Market Instruments (AMI) workstream. The RFI is open until 31 May 2026.

The Request for Information (RFI) seeks stakeholder input on early concepts intended to enhance transparency in the reporting of corporate climate actions that are not fully captured within existing Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories.

The consultation is based on the AMI Phase 1 Progress Update White Paper, which summarizes initial outcomes of the standard development process. The document outlines objectives, principles and structural options under consideration but does not constitute a draft standard and does not introduce accounting or reporting requirements. Feedback received during this phase will inform the development of a future AMI Standard and/or Guidance, with a formal public consultation currently planned for 2027.

A central proposal in Phase 1 is the introduction of a multi statement reporting structure within the corporate GHG report. This approach would retain the traditional physical GHG inventory, while introducing additional statements to separately reflect market-based approaches linked to contractual and procurement choices, the GHG impacts of actions assessed relative to baseline scenarios and selected non-GHG indicators.

Early engagement in the RFI is intended to support the robust design of future requirements and improve the clarity, credibility and decision usefulness of corporate GHG reporting.
