Salling wins special prize at Sustainability Awards 2023

As the culmination of a day in the name of sustainability in Børssalen, the winners of Sustainability Awards were announced. Among the prizes was Long Term Value Creation, a special prize awarded for long-term goals and results.

Salling Group was awarded the Special Prize for Long Term Value Creation at the Sustainability Awards, which was held by Dansk Erhverv and EY on 14 September. The award ended the evening in the Børssalen, which was crammed to overflowing, and where the winners of the categories in Climate Impact Award, Innovation Award and Green Transition Award were presented as well.

The criteria for the Special Prize for Long-Term Value Creation, which is not open for application, include the requirement that it is awarded to companies that have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability and have achieved significant positive impacts over time.

Awarding Salling Group is among others justified by the Group’s ambition to become climate neutral in 2050.

“They have a targeted focus on contributing to the green transition. Having more that 10 million customers a week, 1,724 stores, 60,000 employees and 5,700 suppliers, the reach of Salling Group is tremendous, and they take that seriously when they inspire customers, oblige suppliers, and engage employees”, says Jan C. Olsen, CEO of EY in Denmark.

While the winners of the three categories, Climate Impact Award, Innovation Award and Green Transition Award, are chosen by an independent jury, the winner of the Special Prize, Long Term Value Creation, is chosen by Dansk Erhverv and EY.

“Furthermore, we have attached great importance to Salling Group’s inclusive corporate culture, which for decades has been part of their DNA and shown that there is room for everyone, and that everyone can make a difference - which is of great value to the individual, the labour market, and society”, says Brian Mikkelsen, CEO of Dansk Erhverv.

Anders Hagh, CEO of Salling Group, says about the prize:

“From supplier to checkout counter, the work transitioning into a greener and more sustainable retail business is highly prioritised and requires persistent - and joint - efforts. I therefore receive the prize both on behalf of the entire Salling Group, but also on behalf of all our employees who work hard every day to deliver, also when it comes to our climate ambitions. And at the same time on behalf of our many suppliers and cooperative partners, who lift a heavy burden. The Long Term Value Creation prize is a recognition of our considerable joint efforts, and I am deeply grateful for the support that it demonstrates”.

About Sustainability Awards
The background for the Sustainability Awards, launched in 2021 by Dansk Erhverv and EY, is the desire to pay tribute to companies that work strategically, innovatively and transformatively with sustainability. In addition, the aim is to share inspiration on the effective initiatives that make a real difference to companies and society.

Three prizes are awarded at the Sustainability Awards: The Climate Impact Award, Innovation Award and Green Transition Award to which Danish companies are invited to nominate themselves and which an independent jury assess. In addition, the Dansk Erhverv and EY select and give away the Special Prize for Long Term Value Creation, a prize for which you cannot be recommended.
