Over 80 EY people and clients reaffirm their pledge of loyalty and dedication to Singapore and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The guest-of-honor for the event was Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State for Defence and Sustainability and the Environment.

The SAF Day Rededication Ceremony, held on 1 July to commemorate SAF Day, is attended by participants who are Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) and SAF Volunteer Corps members, their employers and civilian colleagues.

In his opening address, CPT(NS) Liew Nam Soon, Singapore Country Managing Partner, Ernst & Young LLP, also EY Asia East Deputy Regional Managing Partner paid tribute to the EY people and clients who contribute to Singapore’s defense and highlighted the important role that corporates play in supporting national service.

He said:
“On this day, we honor our colleagues and friends in the business community who serve or have served in our national defense, contributing not only at the workplace but in uniform as well. We are especially proud that this includes not just men, but also women who step forward to serve. They are setting a powerful example that our commitment to Singapore’s defense knows no boundaries. As corporate leaders, we recognize that we have a responsibility to support our people in their NS and reservist duties.

Additionally, through our professional services work with the government sector, we contribute to safeguarding Singapore against risks and challenges, and help them seize opportunities to build stronger national defense agencies.”

SV2 Lim Li Ly, Assurance Senior at Ernst & Young LLP, has served with the SAF Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) for seven years as an Auxiliary Security Trooper.

She shares her reason for volunteering: “Being part of the SAFVC allows me to contribute meaningfully beyond my professional work. By providing security at key installations and national events such as SAF Day and the National Day Parade, I feel a deep sense of purpose, knowing that I play a small but important role in supporting Singapore’s security. It’s about protecting the way of life we all enjoy — and I’m proud to be part of that.”

Addressing the participants at the Rededication Ceremony, guest-of-honor Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State for Defence and Sustainability and the Environment, says:
“The contributions of our national servicemen cannot be understated. National Service is the cornerstone of our defense. It reflects our collective sense of duty, and is what makes our defense credible.

Public support for defense is vital to the SAF’s success. Families and businesses all have a role in to play in supporting defense. Employers such as yourselves understand that our NSmen’s contribution to defense and security contributes to a stable environment where businesses can succeed and thrive.

Together, public trust, societal support and solidarity at home give immense strength and resolve to the SAF’s mission as well as motivation for our people to serve with confidence and purpose.”
