Strengthening responsible, safe and inclusive AI applications in Southeast Asia’s education

How we can harness the opportunities that AI brings to education while ensuring its application is responsible, safe, and inclusive for Southeast Asian countries. This is a major question that requires coordinated solutions from regulators, educational institutions, and the private sector.

In brief

  • AI applications in education across nine Southeast Asian Countries

  • Challenges and issues in implementation

  • Action points to promote responsible, safe and inclusive AI in education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been rapidly developing and is increasingly recognized as a breakthrough technology that is driving profound transformations across various sectors. It contributes to improved efficiency, fosters innovation, and supports sustainable growth. In practice, education is one of the sectors most deeply impacted by the advancements of AI.

Via our research, we have found that the AI application in education across Southeast Asian countries brings numerous practical benefits and opens up new learning experiences for users across different regions. However, this process also presents significant challenges and risks, requiring appropriate solutions to ensure AI is implemented in a responsible, safe and inclusive manner.

Ernst & Young Vietnam Limited is releasing the report titled “AI for Sustainable Development in ASEAN (AISDA): Strengthening evidence toward promoting responsible, safe and inclusive AI to support sustainable development in Southeast Asia” (*) on April 2025. The report provides up-to-date information and analysis of the challenges and practical action points to promote AI application in education across the region.

We believe this report will serve as a valuable reference for stakeholders – especially development partners and businesses – in exploring and leveraging opportunities to address AI-related challenges in education, contributing to the development of an innovative, equitable and sustainable educational ecosystem in Southeast Asia.
