Chair of the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s ERM Committee; and the Actuarial Women’s Committee. ASABA ExCo member. Curious by nature. Committed to transformation and gender equality.

Idelia is a Partner at EY based in Johannesburg. She is an experienced actuary (FIA, CERA) with technical expertise ranging from Life Reserving, Non-Life Reserving, Risk Capital Modelling, Economic Capital, Enterprise Risk Management, Capital Management and Optimisation, Risk Governance and Model Governance.

In her role as EY Africa Actuarial Leader, she heads a team of more than 100 actuarial professionals across five locations in Africa – Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mauritius, Nairobi and Lagos. The Actuarial practice prides itself on technical excellence, inclusiveness, curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.

She chairs the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s ERM Committee and is a member of the SAM Phase II Sub-Committee. Furthermore, she is an active member of the actuarial profession through working group engagement. She is the 2023/2024 chair of the Actuarial Women’s Committee (AWC) which forms part of the Association for South African Black Actuarial Professional. She believes strongly in fairness and equal opportunity, and as such she is passionate about driving transformation and diversity in the actuarial profession. As a result of her own healing and growth journey, she is also invested in addressing gender bias and discrimination in the workplace and empowering women in order to unlock their potential.

How Idelia is building a better working world

By actively contributing to transforming the actuarial profession – through development and mentorship with the EY actuarial team and by involvement in the Association of South African Black Actuarial Professionals. By driving female empowerment in the actuarial profession by chairing the Actuarial Women’s Committee and driving initiatives to level the playing field for women.
