¡Happy Mailboxes!

A Christmas for reflecting, connecting and sharing.

As is customary this time of the year, we want to make the most of the season’s greetings to continue to create value for society and improve prospects for the neediest.

This year we chose to focus on Spain’s most pressing social issue: homelessness and the right to adequate housing. There are more than 28,500 homeless people in this country. And without a home, without an address, these people have no future.

This Christmas, we want to get you to think about the value of something so ordinary as a mailbox. For many, a mailbox symbolises so much more than an address: it is an anchor, a sense of belonging and a portal to new opportunities and a brighter future.

Here at EY we are aware of what it means to not have a mailbox. Through our programme “Much more than a roof”, we partner with organisations of the calibre of TuTechôFundación Soñar DespiertoFundación Red ÍncolaCasa Caridad, AFAVI and Betania to provide homes to those that need one the most. The programme strives to shine the spotlight on these organisations’ daily work supporting individuals and families facing this situation.

Our GivEYrs at Christmas

We all deserve a place to call home and the chance to revel in the warmth of the season, which can be a real nightmare for those without one.  That is why this Christmas, in addition to reflecting, we have decided to take action.

Together with our GivEYrs, we have brought the Christmas spirit to the centres that work  with the homeless, gifting trees and decorating them together, sitting down to share traditional Christmas desserts, roscón, pannetone and polvorones, and putting a smile on the faces in greatest need of cheer this time of the year.

Much more than a roof

“Much more than a roof” is a pioneering programme that encompasses all of the initiatives pursued by EY alongside TuTechô and other organisations we work with to ensure adequate housing for groups at risk of exclusion.

The right to adequate housing is a basic human right recognised in international human rights law as part of the right to an adequate standard of living.
