Four Futures Japan : An immersive experience of science-based climate change scenarios

The Four Futures Tokyo installation is an immersive, science-led experience guided by EY Experts on climate change and sustainability, hosted in 2025 by the EY Tokyo office and supported by global colleagues.

In Brief

  • Introduced at COP 28 and now featured in Tokyo in March 2025, Four Futures is an immersive, science-led experience hosted by the EY Tokyo office, whereby our Experts on climate change and sustainability guide participants through sustainability scenarios and explore potential outcomes for communities, businesses, and policymakers.
  • Four Futures consists of a two-part experience: a virtual journey into four plausible futures, followed by a discussion in which participants explore transformative ideas together and create momentum for action within their organizations.
  • The experience connects climate information to real-life impacts through emotionally engaging storytelling, all grounded in science, data, and technology. This enables participants to understand how our present actions can shape the future and aims to inspire courageous and innovative thinking for a better future.

Four Futures Japan  was held from March 18 to March 21 , holding sessions for more than 300 participants from over 70 organizations and institutions.

Introduced at COP28 in 2023, Four Futures has been held in 21 countries and regions around the world, where climate change experts present four scenarios for a future world facing sustainability challenges based on scientific evidence. By experiencing and understanding these scenarios, organizations can gain insights into the impacts they face and the actions they should consider taking.

PARTICIPANTS’ VOICES

  • I was able to experience the scenario of climate change through images and sound, and was strongly impressed by the heightened sense of realism and crisis.
  • I felt that the contents of this presentation were effective as a means of communicating a theme such as climate change, which is difficult to feel. I also got some useful hints for corporate communication.
  • The video and audio presentation helped us to deepen our understanding of a topic that we often deal with in writing in our daily work, in a way that also appeals to our emotions.
  • Among the many environment-related events, this event was particularly stimulating, and I gained a lot of insight.
