On April 7, 2026, a press release on the European Commission's website regarding the methodology for setting the price of certificates under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) as well as the price of certificates for the first quarter of 2026 has been published.
The European Commission will calculate the CBAM certificate price as a weighted average of the closing auction prices for certificates from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
In 2026, the European Commission will calculate and publish 4 quarterly prices, in the first week after the end of each quarter, and starting from 2027, the European Commission will calculate and publish weekly prices.
For the first quarter of 2026, the price of CBAM certificates was set at EUR 75.36.
Therefore, companies may provision the amounts due for CBAM certificates for the first quarter of 2026 based on an officially calculated price.
We remind you that starting February 2027, all CBAM certificates will be available for purchase through the common central platform.
The EY team is available for further details regarding the above.
