On March 28, 2025, a statement was issued on the European Commission's website announcing that the application process to become a CBAM authorized declarant will commence on March 31, 2025, within the CBAM registry.
We would like to remind you that through the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) the European Commission introduced a carbon tax and compliance obligations applicable to imports of products from the largest polluting industries, namely for cement, cast iron, pig iron and steel, aluminum, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen (e.g. nitric acid, sulfonitric acids, tubes or pipes, screws, metal constructions and parts of constructions).
A section dedicated to the CBAM authorization process has been created in the CBAM Registry Authorization Management Module (AMM).
If you are importing CBAM products, we recommend that you initiate the authorization process as soon as possible, as the CBAM authorization process may take more than 6 months, and from 2026, the import of products subject to CBAM is conditioned on holding the CBAM authorization.
The EY team is available for further details on the above.
