How EY can help
Based on our experience, companies are overpaying their green taxes.
The Hungarian green tax legislation offers several opportunities that can lead to significant tax savings. Companies usually do not review their logistics processes from a green tax point of view; thus, in many cases they pay more green taxes than necessary. Moreover, they face significant administrative difficulties, as well.
With careful planning, significant financial and administrative benefits can be achieved in green tax.
Recently, green tax is in focus of tax audits. The tax authority investigates companies based on the data available to them (e.g. Intrastat reports, online invoicing) and this way the tax officers are more effectively identifying the potential green tax liabilities and risks. In addition, green tax shortages may also lead to VAT shortages (as green tax is part of the VAT base).
